Show all shows all records in the table. I guess I don't understand your question.
I'm wanting to know if there is a calculation which yields the same result as Get (TotalRecordCount) >= Get (FoundCount) that doesn't involve any "counting' overhead on filemaker's part. I want an object to be hidden when the user is viewing all records (as opposed to a subset of records).
Alternately I'd like assurance that neither Get (TotalRecordCount) nor Get (FoundCount) incur the same performance penalty as a Count() function.
I could be wrong, but I doubt the method you mention would be a huge performance hit.
This test was done in FileMaker 11 Advanced on a database hosed by FMS 10, but I have no reason to think things will be different in newer versions.
I opened a database to a layout based on a table with: 1,495,728 records.
I then used the data viewer in FileMaker 11 Advanced to evaluate watch expressions with:
Get ( FoundCount )
Get ( TotalRecordCount )
Both returned results that were instantaneous as far as I could tell.
