hosting and accessing a database at different locations
I was wondering if you could help me out:
I think it's pretty simple. I need to host a database at a location, and log into it from another location (not on the same network). We'd need a static IP to do that, correct? We don't have FM Server, just FM Pro 12. Hosting on a PC, accessing it from a Mac and/or PC. What do you think? Please let me know what I need!
A static IP makes this easier, but there are work arounds that avoid needing a static IP. This is not an area where I am expert, but if you search this forum on "Port Forwarding" you should find some very helpful posts by DavidAnders and S. Chamblee on this subject.
