What file format can you export into? Tab, csv, excel or...?
You should be able to import each file with the new table option to import the data and create a new table to receive the imported data, then use Manage | Database | Relationships to link the tables in relationships that recreate the original relationships. Depending on the file format you import from you may also need to rename the field names to remove generic field names created during the import though this can be avoided if you can get the field names exported as the first row of your exported data.
Phil. Thanks for that. I can import into Filemaker in any format. Although I was planning on Excel.
And yes I can export from Omnis the field names as top-row labels.
I'm not sure I understood:
. . . and create a new table to receive the imported data, . . .
Didn't the table already get created with:
. . . import each file with the new table option to import the data . . .
? Not trying to be pedantic though.
Ahh well I guess you did sorry, but it was the end of a frantic working week and I was half asleep.
Hi there Clive.
I am stuck with OMNIS. I'm running an ONMIS 7 database, but, as you may know, Omnis is NOT running under Apple OSX 10 but under OSX 9.
I really want to migrate to FileMaker Pro, and I notices that you are busy with the same activity.
I did some investigation, and I found that what used to be OMNIS is now called OMNIS Studio.
I managed to get a copy of OMNIS Studio (Which CAN run under OSX 10), but I have not been able to do the migration.
How are you doing with your project, and do you have some useful hints for me??
