I read up on the link and still not sure how to create this script for this. Is it possible you can give me some insight as to how I should begin it? I have "borrowed" fields from another table in order for the customers name, address, email and phone number fields to fill automatically once the account number is selected or entered.
I am focusing on this question on the link "Is there another function besides Lookup table that allows the user to enter a differnet value into the field without changing the original field from the related table?"
I am so lost with alot the Filemaker Pro 12 issues and have been taking trainging courses online, but still unsure regarding a couple of things. If you can help I greatly appreciate it. Thank you.
On of the reasons that I recommended that thread is that it is not at all clear to me what you currently have in place. It sounds like you have a dynamic link to a related table where you should have fields defined in your layout table that may or may not look up data from another table.
If by "borrowed" you just copied and pasted fields from another layout, you may have simply linked to data in another table and thus, whether you edit a field on the original layout or the layout where you added these "borrowed" fields, you are editing one and the same set of records. If, instead, you opened up Manage | Database | Fields and defined new fields for your layout's table, this would not occur.
Thank you very much I following the instructions from the link and used option #2; this worked exactly how I needed it to. Thank you very much again for all your assistance.
