How do I find the maximum number in a set of subtotals?

      Post

I've been stuck on this for quite awhile. I have AV Gear, Quantity, and Date it will be used at a meeting. The meeting lasts 5 days. I have a layout that shows me each type of Gear, then the dates that Gear is being used and the Total Quantity for each date. How do I add a summary field that then gives me the highest number needed over those five days?

      Example Layout:

      LCD Projector

      DateQuantity

      9/15

      9/23

      9/33

      9/41

      9/51

      Maximum number 5

FileMaker won't let me make a Summary Field of a Summary Field and I've tried everything else I can think of.

Interesting Question! There may be a simpler approach, but one option is that if you can set up a related table where one record matches by date to each record in your current table, a calculation field using Count ( Relatedtable::Nonblankfield ) can produce the sub totals and then a Maximum type summary field (defined in this new table) can report the maximum usage figure for a given found set or sorted sub group.
