How do I make sort field calculate a total for the sub summary report?

     I have a field that I want to sort my report by, but the only problem is it lists the field multiple times and so simply chooses the first record when in the sub summary without the body rather than showing a total of all those fields.

     In my screenshot you can see how for example it is showing the wrong data. It simply shows the first one which is empty, but I know for a fact there were bank charges in June. It isn't showing the total of all records with the Type field "Bank Charge" rather the first record with this type field and month 6.

     When I reinsert the body, it is evident what is happening, how can I get around this?
