This only appears while in layout mode. If you would rather it display sample data, select View > Show > Sample Data.
Actually that is the sample data :)
If you deselect it you will get the field names.
You are correct; I misspoke. But it only displays the 'advertising' on text fields; containers display the FP file logo. As soon as you have typed any text, using 'Sample Data' will display the text in the current record you are on when you drop into layout mode. Dates and numbers always show example dates and numbers if those fields are empty.
I always show Sample Data so I can see how the font looks according to the layout-level formatting applied in relation to field size etc. But yes, if you uncheck View > Show > Sample Data, you get field names. :^)
Great, that made a big difference and I thank you !
Now I'm halfway there -- is the sample data accesible so I change it to reflect MY advertising ??
Since the advertising is only accessible in text fields without data and only in layout mode ... and since only you the Developer will be in layout mode (hopefully) then you would only be advertising to yourself. But no, it isn't modifyable. Good thought though!
Gosh you've been helpful. I teach my customers enough to modify their templates so they can 'own' them and customize them over the years. If they blow them up I get a call back to fix things.
Personally I think people should full ownership to what they buy. Nobody would put a 'seal' on machinery to prevent tinkering. When I buy a car I have them remove the trunk advertising too ! Drill holes in my new car for them to advertise ? Intolerable...
So guess I will have to suffer what seems to be advertising. My only option is to re-create the entire file at significant cost to me.
Filemaker are you listening ? I paid good money for software and solutions then discover you limit my access. It's like buying a dress where the tag can't be removed. Can't imagine why you would lock-in potentially confusing data for my customers or expect me to REBUILD FROM SCRATCH to remove it.
Might consider reigning in the corporate mind. This does nothing but hurt ME ! Your loyal customer !
Bad business practice that....
