How Do You Change the Order of Requests in a Saved Find in FPro 11?
"requests" has a specific meaning in FileMaker. You can enter find mode, specify criteria, then create a new request, specify more criteria and so on--creating multiple "requests" until you then perform the find. In such cases, you get a found set of all records matching the criteria for the first request OR those that match the second request OR ....
But if that's what you mean, the order of the requests do not make a difference unless one of the requests is an "omit" request--a request where the omit records option was specified and those should always be the last requests in the requests used to pull up your found set of records.
If it works like 12, click the down arrow in the toolbar where the Find icon resides. Should give you a menu that shows Saved finds. Click on it to edit saved finds. If there is more then one, you can drag the arrows up/down to reorder
Response to PhilModJunk: I do mean "requests the way that you describe them. My problem is that I created a "find" with several requests, in the order you describe with the ORs first and the "Omits" following, and saved it. Now I want to modify it with another OR request, and I want to put that OR request before the "Omits". FileMaker seems to insist on putting the new OR request at the end, after the "Omits". How can I get it to put the new OR request before the "Omits"?
I'd guess that you are using "Modify Last Find" to create a modified set of find requests.
Yes, I'm not finding a way to add a new request to the middle of a set of requests.
But I was able to use this method to get things in the needed order.
Add the new requests.
Navigate to each "omit" request and click Duplicate Request. This will add new copies of these requests to the end of the set where they need to be.
Then return to the original "omits" and delete them
That's a bit of a Kludge, but it works.
Thanks PhilModJunk! This solves my problem. Actually, I was trying to use "Edit Saved Finds" rather than "Modify Last Find". Thank you for suggesting "Modify Last Find" and the steps you proposed. I still don't know if it would be possible to do under "Edit Saved Finds".
