You can use the sort option to display the records in the appropriate order, and if you are referencing a field for a value list the values will be automatically sorted, but the underline record order cannot be changed as I believe you are asking for.
However if you require the fields to be in alphabetical order in your table you could import them, sort them as required then export them as an fp7 file. Then delete all the records in the table and finally import the data you exported that is in the appropriate order and job done
Not to bad if this is a one off process, otherwise you could write a script to do this for you.

What I mean by "the underline record order" is the order of the data when it is not sorted, which is the creation order.
Have you tested creating a value list based on the field, and is it in the right order? By the sounds of it you don't need to resort the order if the data as its imported as the value list should display it sorted for you.
