Hopefully you have imported the data into a Text field.
To convert the imported text to a valid date (regardless of which format your file is using), you can define a calculation field (result is Date) =
t = Substitute ( ImportedText ; [ "/" ; ¶ ] ; [ " " ; ¶ ] )
GetValue ( t ; 2 ) ;
GetValue ( t ; 1 ) ;
GetValue ( t ; 3)
The data there is a valid date. Filemaker recognises it as such (ie, changed from 2 digit to 4 digit). All i need to do is sort it. Surely someone in Europe has sorted a column of dates using the standard european format of DD/MM/YYY. How to do that???
I have no issues sorting by date, are you sure your field is of the type 'date' or 'timestamp' instead of text
If your file is using m/d/y as its date format, and you import d/m/y data into a date field, then some dates will be valid but incorrect (for example 1/12/2010 will be imported as January 12 instead of the original December 1) and others will be invalid (for example 31/1/2010). The only dates that will be both valid and correct are those where the day and the month are the same (such as 5/5/2010).
