Maybe you can use this custom functions to identify and eliminate the carriage return.
You convert to html, eliminate the carriage, and convert to text again.
Perhaps what is in the field producing that blank space are not "return" characters. There are other characters that could produce this result, but because they don't match to the ¶, they are not removed from the text by the substitute function.
It might be useful to paste the text into a word processor such as MS Word and then use the ¶ feature to see what invisible characters are creating that blank space.
Of course. I need to replace space, space, carriage return with "".
This is what I am using: Set Field [Category::category[6; ]Substitute( Category::category; " ¶" ;"")]
But it is still returning no changes.
Why the 6 in brackets?
What you have is impossible in FileMaker. I think you really have:
Set Field [Category::category ;Substitute( Category::category; " ¶" ;"")]
The in brackets refers to the 6th repetition of a repeating field--not something that you have here as far as I know.
Remove the reference to the 6th repetition and see what you get.
Ok I've deleted that. I've been able to substitute out the blanks. But I can't get rid of the CRs.
Here is a screenshot of what the text looks like in MS Word.
Set Field [Category::category; Substitute(Category::category; "¶"; "")]
Should remove all the ¶ characters, but not the ".." (these are probably spaces)
You don't need the quotes around this character, you can use: Substitute(Category::category; ¶; ""), but using the quotes shouldn't make any difference to what results are returned.
it will remove all of them not just those at the beginning of the text in category.
Thanks Phil. That still hasn't worked. The cursor simply remains where it was placed in the category portal and doesn't do anything.
