What is your found set at the time you captured this screen shot?
What options did you select for your portal. There are distinctly different data source options you can specify depending on whether you want to chart the records in your found set or from a related table.
I used the following for a trigger on opening the database (changed it since the last screenshot):
Go to Layout ["Startup Screen"(Invoices)]
Show All Records
Sort Records by Field [Ascending;Invoices::Date]
Now I see this:
What I really want is monthly totals, not invidual invoices on the chart. The chart is not a portal, and the two portals on the left pull their data from the Invoice Table.
To sort by month, you need a field that has the same value for all invoice records of the same month. Ideally, sorting on this field should not only group your records by month, but the groups should fall in chronological order.
Define cMonth as a calculation field. Give it this expression:
Date - day ( date ) + 1
Select Date as the return type.
This computes a date for the first day of the month for all dates in a given month.
Now sort your records by cMonth.
MonthName ( invoices::cMonth ) can be used for the X-Axis by the way to label your chart bars by month.
thank you so much! 2 more things would make this perfect! If I could have the 2/1/12, 3/1/12, etc as FEB, MAR, etc. and to only show those months in the current fiscal year, which for us begins 11/1/2012. Again, thank you so much!
To repeat: MonthName ( invoices::cMonth ) can be used for the X-Axis to label your chart bars by month.
If you want to prune that down to three letters, use: Left ( MonthName ( invoices::cMonth ) ; 3 )
Perfect!!!! Thanks again!
