A search for 5/6/* finds all the 5th of June-s. Could be extended for the next question.
Question 1 would need another couple of glasses of wine, I suspect.
Don't see any way to do #1 without using a day of the week calculation field.
In regards to the search query posted by Sorbsbuster, how can this be done using only month? April for example:
All give this message:
No records match this criteria
Even with a leading zero, there are no results. I have plenty of dates with April however.
Make sure that your field is of type date.
When I enter 3/*/* into a date field in one of my files, it successfully finds all records dated for March.
Thanks. I see what is happening. I don't have any Aprils in 2011 but I do have other months, for which it displays results but only for 2011. I'm doing this:
How do I get it to expand to all years available?
I get all years for that month.
In my database, I have records starting in 2009 to some added yesterday. If I enter 1/*/* (using mmddyyyy system date settings), I get all records with a January date in that field and for all years where a date exists for that month.
Ok. Do you know how I can get it to work for my database?
If it's a date field, it should work. Don't see any reason from your posts why it wouldn't.
Thanks. Who should I contact to help resolve this?
Are you sure that it isn't working?
Are you using US date settings on your computer system?
If so, then you might try re-indexing the field. Enter layout mode, open the field's definition by double clicking it. Turn off indexing. Exit manage database. Then return and turn it back on. Test to see if that makes any difference.
You can re-index all fields in your file by importing all its data into a clone of the file.
If you have FileMaker 11, you can also use Advanced Recovery options to rebuild your file's indexes:
- With the file closed, select Recover from the File Menu.
- Select "Use advanced Options"
- Select only: "Copy File Blocks as-is" and "Rebuild Field Indexes Now".
>>Are you sure that it isn't working?
How do I verify?
Yes - it is US.
I do not see anything about indexing under the Data tab when I double click that field. I had to do File | Manage | Database, select the field and then None for Indexing. Then went back in and saw it was already set as indexed. So I'm thinking the change had no affect.
One thing that might be happening is the date field is using a custom format. I did this because the calender popup kept throwing errors everytime I'd choose a date. I put it back to the built in format:
12 25 2003
that did not make any difference. I previously had this format:
I did the Recover and it said it did not rebuild everything. But indexes were rebuilt according to the results. I then opened this recovery file but still no change on the date searches.
Can you find all the records, and export one field - the date - from them, export the data as file type Filemaker, open that single-field file, and do the search in it?
Even before that, if you click into the field and Ctrl-I, do you see the dates that you expect to find listed the way you expect to see them?
I did the single field export and same results.
The fields are there in the index view.
You could upload that single field file to a file sharing site and post the download link here so that we could take a closer look at it if you want.
