No need to transfer the database. Just open it with the purchased version.
When you created the database, you named and saved it somewhere on your hard drive.
Find it, maybe duplicate it and move the duplicate (backup) to another location.
The paid version of Filemaker will open the database.

the thing is i don't know if i saved it anywhere besides in the program. if i erase the trail won't it take the file with it?
Any database created by filemaker is automatically saved in a file separate from the application. Unless you've stored this file in a very unusual place, uninstalling the demo copy should not delete it.
Use your operating system's file search utility to search for your file by name and you should be able to find it pretty easily.
if this was an email campaign does that still apply?
If this was an Email Campaign set up from the starter solution, then your file name is "Email Campaign Management.FP7" unless you specified a different name when you first created it.
