But do you want this for a) all the records in your table, b) all the records in your current found set c) Some other group of records?
There are three different methods that can produce your list, but some work better than others for one option or another.
ExecuteSQL can do this quite easily for all the records in your table or all records meeting some criteria specified in a WHERE clause.
List can work well if you set up a relationship that matches to the records that you want to list (A relationship with the X operator can match to all records) And you'd use the substitute function to replace the return characters with the characters that you want to use such as the / character you've posted here.
And in FileMaker 13, there's a new summary field that works well for a list based on the current found set. A calculation field with the Substitute function can take the list from this summary field and replace the return with other separator characters just as with the List function.
Yes, i need this for all records. Do you have an example?
ExecuteSQL ( "SELECT \"YourFieldNameHere\" FROM \"YourTableNameHere\" " ; " / " ; "" )
the \" characters are to enclose your table and field names in double quotes inside the quoted string of the SQL query. They may not be needed, but ensure that FileMaker names won't violate a syntax rule in the SQL query.
Oh, great. i did not even now that i can acess Filemaker Data with SQL.
Thanx for the hint.
it works untill
; " \" ; ""
this is just doing nothing. which means the records apear as
i found it
; "" ; " \\"
now it works, great! thanx! :)
but how do i filter empty records?
i get results like
a \ b \ c \ d \ e \ \ g
also i need to empty the last \ after the last record.
You didn't specify that you wanted to filter the records. You indicated that you wanted all values from the entire table and that's what you got--including null values if the field is empty.
A WHERE clause can be added to the SQL to omit null values, but be aware that different characters might be placed in such a field that are not visible (space, tab, return) and then you have a record where the field has no visible data but is not null.
Actually i am looking for GTIN numbers which have 13 digits and are numbers only.
So i have to filter anything which is not 13 digits lony and contains any other chars that are not numbers.
