Title

How to transfer data from one field in one table to a related field in another table

Post

I run a small biz from home, retired and non-technical. I use Mac 10.5.8 and Filemaker Pro 9.0v3.

I designed my own Packing Lists(P/L), Invoices(In Filemaker) and a Billings log(In OpenOffice Calc.-similar to Excel).

In each P/L(Filemaker design) I have the following fields, among others;
P/L No.
Ship Date
Items
P.O. Nos.
Items Description
Item Qty.
In each Invoice(Filemaker design) I have;
Inv. No.
Inv. Date
P/L info. (described above)
Ea. item price
Total Inv. $
In Billings(Open Office Calc design-Similar to Excel) I have;
Inv. No.
Inv. Date
Total Inv. $
Q.
1. There is a lot of data duplication between P/L and Inv.(time consuming and error prone) and when I generate Inv. I like to auto-transfer appropriate P/L data into the Inv.
I think I have established correct relationships and set-up lookups with appropriate fields in ea. doc., but data doesn't appear to x-fer from one doc. to the other. I am able to accomplish this by going the import route.
2. How do I accomplish a similar set-up between Inv.(Filemaker) and Billings(OpenOffice-Calc)?
Thanks for your help.
