I want to be smarter with Tabs

I have a layout that uses five different tabs and it functions quite well for what I want it to do. The issue is in creating intelligent navigation to the tabs. As far as I know, you cannot create a Go To Tab command in a script, so I have created a rather convoluted strategy:

- Each tab has a tiny field on it with a unique name

- My navigation script tests for a varitety of conditions

- Based on these conditions one of several Go To Field commands is issued, identifying one of those tiny fields.

This works but it is a mess. I got the brilliant idea to set a variable called $$Tab, which is about 1/4 the number of script steps. But I reached the conclusion that there is no way to issue a Go to Field[$$Tab] command.

I would think there has to be a better way. Anyone...?
