Title

Identifying duplicate values using a self join relationship - false positives

Post

Have used Knowledge base id 6186 to create a self-join and look for duplicate entries.  I am only interested in duplicates in one field, so the self join is on this field.

However I get a series of false positives - duplicates that aren't duplicates.  It looks to me like there is a maximum length of text that is checked to find a duplicate - not the whole field.

Is there a limit?  or perhaps a special character in the text string of a field that stops the search for duplicate?

I've created a new field (Checkduplicates on the layout so that the record shows as "unique" or a "duplicate":
Checkduplicates (Calculation field)  Options:Unstored, from table, = If(field = table1::field ; "unique" ; "Duplicate")

any help much appreciated.
