Enter 'Find' mode. In the Semester Field enter 'Spring' (no quotation marks), and in the Year field enter 2012. If Approval Status is important, then enter that, too. Press enter (or click 'Perform Find') and you will see all the records that are marked as Spring 2012.
It appears that each course must be approved on a semester by semester basis.
How do you record approvals for the same course for different semesters? Do you have separate records for each semester for each course in the above table? (I'd consider using a related table of approval info instead of duplicating all the data in the other fields each time.)

I did a multi-search, using these functions:
Search 1: Include Spring 2012; Approved
Search 2: Omit Spring 2013; Approved
Search 3: Omit Spring 2013; Pending
It spit out a list that can be exported to Excel. Does that look right to you?
