How is the data formatted that you are trying to import?
You should be able to import starting inventory levels mapping the quantity column to the field in transactions that you use to add product to inventory. This is a lot like setting up a starting balance in a check book register. Your first line is a fictitious "deposit" entry to get your balance column started with the right value.
You may also have to work to get a ID value in the transaction register that correctly matches to a record in the Products (Inventory?) table. (I'm going by memory here and may not be naming the table correctly, check the relationships graph to identify the match fields and tables involved.)
Thanks for replying - I'm using the inventory starter solution within FM12. The data is currently in an excel spreadsheet with the following headings which I am importing.
URN Category Manufacturer Supplier Ref Product Size Colour Date Qty in stock
So this should ensure that each product has its own unique reference that being the URN (sequential number).
I am then going to layout mode > choosing the stock transactions layout view > import records.
I am matching URN to ITEM ID MATCH FIELD, then Qty in Stock to Units In as appropriate.
Its importing the records but its not matching them to the product and showing a units in hand value so I must be missing a link somewhere.
I'm not sure what you mean by a ficititious entry sorry.
The records won't match by URN unless you also import these same URN values into the products table. The match field in Products is defined as an auto-entered serial number so this isn't the best way to match records long term, but should at least get you started matching values.
