Import from spreadsheet is replacing existing data
I'm developing a database for a publishers in Filemaker 9. The data for it is coming from the current database via Excel.
Just to test, I set up a new database with a table (Test) with two fields (Field1 and Field2). Both fields are just plain text.
I set the initial data in the table to be:
I then set up a little spreadsheet (xls format) with five rows containing:
Then I went back to Filemaker and selected the Import Records option from the File menu - selecting the From File sub menu item.
I selected the Add New Records option as shown on the attached jpg. I expected the result to be a table with ten records in - the original 5 plus the 5 new ones from the spreadsheet. Instead what I get is just the 5 rows from the spreadsheet.
I can't imagine what "Add New Records" is supposed to do if it doesn't create new records for the imported data so I assume I'm missing the point.
Can anyone enlighten me please?
