You can't do this as an option selected in the dialog boxes of the Import Records | Folder operation that imports the records, but after they are imported, the filename field can be modifiied to remove the last 5 characters of the file name using Replace Field Contents and a calculation.
This could probably also be set up with an auto-enter calculation defined for the file name field so that it happens as part of the import.
Hi Phil, Thank you so much. Would you know off hand how to create an auto-enter calculation to remove the last four characters in the text box field? As in what does that calculation look like. Thank you. You are saving me.
Another option is to keep the filename, you might need it again later. Or maybe there will be some files from a different type at some point.
And you create a calculation field that shows you the name without the TIFF.
So you would have one Text field called "Filename" and one Calculation field with the following calculation:
[".tiff" ; ""] ;
[".Tiff" ; ""] ;
[".TIFF" ; ""]
Alternatively if you just want to keep it simple and just have one filename field with the tiff removed you:
- Open your table layout, make sure all records are showing.
- Select your Filename field
- Go to "Records" - "Replace Field Contents"
- Choose at the bottom "Replace with calculated Result"
- Specify your calculation with the same calculation as before:
Substitute ( Filename ; [".tiff" ; ""] ; [".Tiff" ; ""] ; [".TIFF" ; ""] )
And hit replace.
DaSaint, you name says it all! Thank you so much! This worked perfectly!! Thank you!!
