Import/export data from field to field (embed?)

      Post

How do I do this (FM 8.5):

I have several fields with numerical values.

I have one field with a mailtext. Its configured as a "e-mail this field" or whatever its called.

In this mailtext I want to embed some of the other fields content - like numbers.

      To be clear:

      Field 1: (numerical) "344"

Field 2: (text, its configured as a "e-mail this field") Hi! You have ordernumber "344".

How do I get that "344" in there???

          Hi

you can set the option for auto-enter a value of the Field 2 to auto-enter a calculated text with a calc like this:

          Field 2 & " " & Field 1

            Hi, thanks!

But as Im not an expert, can you be more specific in how I actually do that?

            Regards

              Hi

              File >> Manage >> Database...

              Double click on Field 2

              Options for Field "Field 2"

              Tab: Auto-Enter

Put a Flag into the box: Calculated value
This will open a window and there you'll put the calculation.

              OK

Remove the flag from the box: Do not replace existing value for field ( if any )

              OK

              OK

              This is all.

              ( I'm sorry for my English )

                Thanks again!

However I still dont get it.

Field 1 contains a mail message. Exemple: "Your registration number is X".

The "x" is supposed to be a copy of what is in Field 1. AND there are several of calculations I need to do like that one, in the same "Filed 2". (Like order number, date, etc)

How would I actually do that "calculation"? (There's a lot of options that I dont understand there...!

                Regards

                  Ok.

                  Let start again.

                  You have more than a field, like A, B, C and D.

Their content may vary for each record.

You want something that concatenates those field with text.

You have at least two ways:

                  1) Merge: you can make a string of text, while in Layout Mode, using the text tool; something like this: At <<A>> o'clock I have to meet <<B>> in NY at street <<C>>; but it's so late so I'll send him an email at: <<D>>

                  2) A new calculated field that has this calc: "At " & A & " o'clock I have to meet " & B & " in NY at street " & C & "; but it's so late so I'll send him an email at: " & D

Try those ways and let me know.

Thanks a lot Daniele! I used your 2nd advice:

                    --------------------------------------------------------------

                    A new calculated field that has this calc: "At " & A & " o'clock I have to meet " & B & " in NY at street " & C & "; but it's so late so I'll send him an email at: " & D

                    ---------------------------------------------------

It worket out really fine thanks to you.

However I have difficulties to make the layout of the text in the field look good in the mail that is prompted when I hit the button to sent mail from Filemaker. But its a minor problem, it works anyhow and Im greatful!

Is there a way to (what is it called...) configure the text to have special fonts and look? Or is that something I have to do in my mail app?

                    Thanks again!
