That's the link to this thread. I did a test, but not in FileMaker 6 so I don't know if it will work for you, where I used a calcualtion field to produce the necessary HTML tagged version of the link and then saved the document as a PDF (you'll have to print to a PDF ). The result didn't look very pretty, but it could be clicked in the PDF to open the link.
This is extremely helpful. Would you be able to explain how I would use a calc field to produce the HTML tagged version of the link?
If the text in YourTable::URlField is: http://forums.filemaker.com/posts/37c4477f48
Then the calculation might look like this:
"<a href=" & Quote ( URLField ) & ">" & URLField & "</a>"
Please note that this was after a simple quick and dirty test of the concept. you may find that:
"<a href=" & Quote ( URLField ) & ">" & "</a>"
I have users asking to be able to type links to their websites into fields in my filemaker pro 12 database fields. Their intention is to have people viewing the database be able to click their text, say it says "www.google.com" and then that will open up that webpage automatically. I saw this thread and I am confused as to how to do this. Script triggers would maybe work if I wrote them so first it checked to see if the field was empty and if it wasn't then it linked to the site, but even then I'm not sure what trigger to use. Maybe "on object exit"??
Any thoughts on this would help, you would think once you typed "www....." it would notice it as a web link automatically.
Threads more than 3 months old no longer pop up in Recent Items when a new comment is posted to them. Thus, any such are very likely to not be seen by others. If you want to post to a topic covered by such a thread, start a new thread but include a hyperlink to the original so that interested parties are one click away from reading the original thread.
For one possible approach, see this thread: Hyperlinks
That approach assumes that only a web address is entered into the text field.
Is that the case or do you want to have a paragraph of text with one or more hyperlinks enclosed in the paragraph?
That is a possibility in FileMaker Pro (not in GO) with the use of script triggers and some careful scripting. Let me know in a new thread if this is the case.
