Insert new characters in existing field

Insert new characters in existing field

I am re-vamping our Item Numbers for Catalog, Price Book, and organizational purposes. I need to add characters as a prefix to the existing Item Number. I have tried Find & Replace. If I want to add NR to an Item Number (BALEX2) I find "B" and replace this with "NRB". This works fine if there are no other "B"s in the Item Number. If there is a "B" in the Item Number, the result is NR planted right in the middle of the new Item Number. Is there an easier way?

          Thank you for your post.

Instead of using Find and Replace, do the following:

          1. Put your cursor in the Item Number field.

          2. Pull down the Records menu and select "Replace Field Contents..."

          3. Click the radio button "Replace with calculated result", and a new dialog box appears.

          4. Enter:    "NR" & Item Number

          Note: Enter: "NR" &

.... and then click the Item Number field in the field list above on the left side.

          5. Click "OK", and then click "Replace".

This replaces all Item Number values with "NR" followed by the Item Number for all the found set of records.

If you need clarification for any of the above steps, please let me know.
