We used to do this all the time with a filtered portal back before auto-complete was around.

Is a crude approach limited to the number of times you choose to explicitly state the number parameter in the Left function. With Filemaker Advanced, you could presumably create a custom recursive function that will work for any number of possible word lengths.
Well, I am trying to create a glossary and want to use the onkeystroke trigger with a global field to query a calculated but stored field.
So is the term field contains "apple", the calculation should contain:
Then, onkeystroke, refresh the layout. I don't know if this will work.
This did the trick:
IndexWord(Text ; Header)
(Initial call of function would be called with an empty header string)
tCount = Length(Text);
newHeader = If(Header <> "" ; Header & ¶ );
NewText = Left(Text;tCount - 1)
Text = "" and Header = ""; "";
tCount = 0; Header;
IndexWord(newText ; NewHeader & Text)
