inserting specific calculations in email script

I am using FM9 pro, and the os is windows xp.

I have created a script that will send email to customers.

I am now attempting to specify fields within the email text, and cannot figure out the operators etc to pull from the db.

For example, I want to insert a customers name and customer number within the email text.  Every calculation I create doesn't work.  Here's one example of what I have tried:

"Dear  + Consumer Service Database::parent first   &   Exact ( Consumer Service Database::parent first ; Consumer Service Database::parent first )"

I am new to FileMaker (hopefully you won't laugh at my attempts), and would like to get this completed soon.  Somehow, I just can't figure this out.
