Add account does work with a full access privilege set. It does not work with a less than full access privilege set unless you select the "run with full access privileges" option for the script that uses that script step.
No you don't understand my question: I HAVE full access privilege, and I am the one running the scripts. I want to create automatically a NEW account that has full access privilege. According to the documentation this is impossible:
The privilege set cannot be assigned via this script step. Accounts with Full Access privilege sets must be created manually.
Apologies. I thought that this was possible, but a quick check shows that it is not possible.
One normally does not want to create multiple full access accounts so I've never needed to be able to do that with a script.
Here we may be 2 or 3 system administrator, when a new one arrives I don't want to go through the 55 files! I want to automate this.
But do you really need to give each administrator a different full access account? The only time that you need to open a DB with a full access account is when the user is going to make design changes to the database.
And I used to manage a system of more than 55 files, life got a lot simpler when it came to managing accounts once I merged those multiple files down into a much smaller set of files (though this was a lot of work to do...)
Absolutely! Each administrator need to do design changes! They are administrator, not users.
then make an "Administrator" account with full access and a safe password
I am a system administrator and the ethics always tell me that: 1 user == 1 account
That is also what I teach my students :-)
Also I have some fields that takes note of which user did the last modifications. If it tells me that the modification was done by Administrator, I still don't know who didi it!!!
So nobody has a solution?
FileMaker... time to wake up and think of adding a function for that?
Thank you for your posts.
Full Access accounts must be created manually. On a side note, the Enable Account script step (Activate/Deactivate) cannot be used with a Full Access account. Otherwise, other Full Access accounts could then remove all other Full Access accounts. It sounds like you want a "super" Full Access account.
One possible option is to create a privilege set that has all the abilities of a Full Access account, and then use that privilege set when you create a new account through a script.
I recommend that you enter your suggestion into the Feature Requests web form at:
The entries into this web form populate a database file that is hosted and monitored by Product Management and Development. All suggestions are discussed and considered for possible implementation in a future release. Although I could copy your posts and paste them into the web form, there are a couple of questions asked on the web form that only you can answer.
Thanks! Clear and a solution to do something different.
Will do post to feature_request
