According to the sample DB you made available, I did a sort in the Input layout, on stkName, and the records are in order by 'Stock Name'. Symbol would be just as easy.
It turns out I needed to go into the Relationship 'box' and specify the sort as Unicode. Why does this work? I don't know. All the names are in English so I thought English would work as a sort language. But,... noooooooooooo. FM wants UNICODE for some strange reason??? Got any ideas?
Between which two tables? And which layout has the navigation problem? Careful with Unicode, it is case sensitive.
Between which two tables?
Answer: between STocks (the layout table) and the portal table (StockTransactions). I still don't know why Unicode would sort when English wouldn't???
I'm definitely missing something here. I'm looking at the Input layout, which is based on the Stock table. The stock name is display on the layout, from the Stock table. Record navigation is by 'Go To Record/Request/Page (Next/Previous), so I'm not sure how the relationship between Stock and StockTransactions pertains to the navigation problem.
Technically it is not a navigation problem. It is a 'display/sort' problem.
If I go into Manage Database and then goto Relationships and then click the Edit Relationship box between STOCKS and STOCTRANSACTIONS and then specify SORT for STOCKS and then select UNICODE everything on the layout displays as expected. If I select ENGLiSH, I get the primary key order...
Go figure.... Could this be a bug in FM?
In the sample DB you provided before, when I sort in the Input layout on 'stkName', the records are in this order:
'Apple Co, Ford Motor Co, Saskatchewan Potash, Umc Industries, Us Natural Gas, Us Oil, Weatherford, Zzz Inc'
Is this not correct?
That is correct.
US Oil 130
US Nat'l Gas 131
Notice these are in Primary Key Order; not Name order.
If I sort, as described obove, in UNICODE order for the Stock table I get:
Bank America 133
Gold ETF 134
This is the sort sequence I wanted. I wonder if the "&" in AT&T screws up the English sort?
