      Link to images and sharing

      Post

      Hi to everybody!

I'm new here in this forum and, furthermore, my mother language isn't English so I apology for any mistake :-)

      Here below my question.

Small network of 5 Macintosh computers with OS from 10.4 to 10.6; one computer has 10.6 Server.

Filemaker 5.5 and a file (.fp5 obviously) with a container graphic field linking to .jpg files. Both file and folders with the .jpg are located in the computer with 10.6 Server.

It happens that the very 1st who opens this file can see properly the images for all the records, the linking from the container fields works fine.

The 2nd who opens the file (both by doubleclicking the icon or via the "host/guest" procedure) doesn't see any image "not possible to track the image file: xxxx.jpg" (not sure about this message because the FM 5.5 version is the Italian one).

The folders where the .jpg images are located haven't been moved at all; in the years we've been always very careful about this aspect: never change the position of these images.

May someone give me some advice in order to solve this problem?

Thank you very much in advance!
      Grazie 1000 in anticipo!

      Ciao :-)

      Max

PS: sorry again for my English!

First, don't allow users to open the file directly. This may result in damage your file so that it cannot be used. You should install a copy of filemaker on the server and use it to open the file. Others should then connect to the database by using open remote...

Each user needs direct access to the shared image. They need to have the directory or drive of the server mounted on their computer. It needs to be mounted in exactly the same way and the file path of the image inserted in the container needs to exactly match the filepath from the user's desktop to the actual file via the mounted volume.

            Hi PhilModJunk,

thanks a lot for the answer!

I followed your indications about opening the file. Users can access the volume where the images are placed but I still have the same problem.

I also tried with the images folders copied in the user's computer, same path: disks and folders exactly the same names. No result at all.

The funny thing is that previously under Mac OS 9 I hadn't any problem at all, it seems that the switching to Mac OS X had "broken" something :-(((

Thanks in advance for any help!
