Can you describe the exact steps you are taking to "open the layout"?
What window mode are you in? Browse mode or Find Mode?
Find mode always takes you to a blank version of your layout where you enter search criteria into the same fields you'd use for entering data, but because you are in find mode, your 'record' is really a 'request' that fileMaker will use to pull up a set of records that match the criteria you have entered.
The layout auto opens when Filemaker is started. I'm in Browse Mode, List as View.
Go to layout mode and open layout setup... What do you see in "Show Records From"?
In browse mode, what numbers do you see near the "book control" in the upper left corner of the status tool bar?
Show Records From lists the one table in the database.
I have two records in the table, when the layout opens it shows three records since it has created a new blank record.
When you first create a new database file, the original table will get a new blank record created for you automatically. If you don't want that record, just delete it. No additional new blank records should appear unless a specific action creates a new blank record.
