Not much that you can do about this. The shift is to make room in the body for the active record indicator, a slim blank rectangle to the left of the active record, to be visible.
Cheers Phil, I could see why it was happening, just wondered if there was some sort of over-ride.
Will consider minor changes to form layouts.
Great question and answer. I looked for everything that could be causing this. It wasn't until I read this thread that I realized all my list views shifted. So off to move all my detail views 3pix right!
This might help you now or in the future (FileMaker 13 and above)...
Configuring the current record indicator in FileMaker Pro
Tony is right. Older versions it was 3 pixels (now points) difference. For smooth UI/UX, I always placed a dummy 3px/pt box to the far left in Form View, so that I could place elements and have them 'match position' when going from Form to List view.
Table View is entirely different. I wrote an article for latter version to use the difference along with "Hide object when':
I know this isn't List/Form view swapping, but the principle is the same for older FM without the ability to turn off the indicator as Tony suggests with the link. Older versions also did not have "Hide object when", but there were two layouts (Form & List). Just keep the 3px/pt difference in mind when designing for them.
