Logical filed tests in Filemaker Pro5.5

      Post

I want to prevent entry into one filed unless two other fields are empty and vice versa. Basically the logic would be; If Field 1 has entry, Field 2 and Field 3 must be empty. If Field 2 has entry, Field 1 and Field 3 must be empty. If Field 3 has entry, Field 1 and Field 2 must be empty.

I only have an elemetary understanding of field validation and logical operators and don't know how to solve this problem. I also don't have a manual!

      Any help?

          Thank you for your post.

Your manual is available through the Help menu (Contents and Index).

The validation formula for Field 1 would be:

IsEmpty (Field 2) and IsEmpty (Field 3)

I don't have FileMaker Pro 5.5 on my machine, but check the options (if available) for "Strict. Do not allow user to override validation" and "Display custom message if validation fails."  You may want to put in the message "Information already exists in Field2 or Field3"

Do the same for the other two fields.
