Make a view only field not drop down?
Hi all, I have a field that is a drop down, or pop-up menu as FileMaker seems to call it. In security, I have a users profile set to allow view access only as I don't want them to be able to change the values on these fields from what the system set, but I do want managers to be able to manually change them.
This works in that if they try to change it, it says they don't have permission, but is there any way to prevent them from being able to use the drop down at all? Basically like if I had field entry "browse mode" unchecked? I know there's workarounds like making it just a text field and then putting the drop down somewhere else for the people that need to change it but just thought I'd check.
If you are using FileMaker 13, you can put two copies of this field on top of each other, one formatted as an edit box and deny browse mode access and one with your value list. Use the new "hide object when" feature to control which of the two copies of this same field is visible for a given user.
