Make FMP open a DB at launch?
How do you tell FMP 11 to open a specific DB when it launches? I used to do that but can't remember where it is, and can't find it.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
I've set up an 'Opener' file that presents the user with a menu of available shared files, then closes itself once selection(s) are made, then make a Mac alias and a PC shortcut of the Opener and put these aliases in user's docks/taskbars, then only need to edit the Opener file when new files are available, old ones are retired.
You can't set up the application to specifically open a file as far as I know, but you can set up one FileMaker file to open others using either the Open File script step or by defining external data source references and then using a layout or script to refer to fields from those table occurrences.
I thought you could set it up to open the last used DB, for instance. No?
Closest thing that I can think of is an "Open Recent" menu option in the file menu that you can pick from after the application has opened.
On a Mac I just drag the file to the dock and click on it when I want to open it. FM launches and that file is open.
Hmm, I could have sworn that FMP 11 had the ability to open the last used DB. Maybe not. Thanks anyway.
Yep, you can set a FILE to open other files by a variety of means, but I know of no way to set the APPLICATION to open a file automatically just by launching the application.
