Making a "Company" file from a "Contacts" file

      Post

Using  FMP 7 on Mac OSX 10.5.8, Filemaker experience is moderate (self taught)

I have a file that is a mailing list for direct mail pieces.  There are often multiple contacts per company that I want to mail to.   I would like to be able to make a new file from the Company fields (company name, address, phone, URL) within the contacts file, without having to manually eliminate duplicates.  I want to be able to vet the list of contacts either by company (I don't want to promote to that company) or by individual (CFOs wouldn't be interested in my mailer).

There must be an easy way to do this, but I think I need a fresh approach.

      Thanks in advance.

This works in later versions of filemaker. I think it'll work for filemaker 7, but check and see...

Define your new table for company info.

Specify unique values for your Company Name field.

Import the data from your existing table and enable the auto-enter options so that additional records with the same company name are excluded during import.
