Move table from one database to another

      Post

Hello,  I have successfully move tables from one database to another but I have a problem, none of the calculated fields (the definitions) come with the move. Is there an easy way to move tables so the field types stay with the tables, I have complex calculations, not looking forward to manual entry of the calculations.

Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.   :)

      Thanking you in advance,

How did you move the tables and what version of Filemaker?

If you use Import Records | File with FMP 10, you can import all the fields, including their field definitions.

Be aware that the expressions of any calculation fields that refer to objects external to the table will be enclosed in /* comment */ brackets to disable them until you resolve the references and edit them to remove the brackets.

I am using FMP Pro9, I exported and imported from FileMaker.  Is this version the problem?

I've never worked with FMP 9 as I jumped a bunch of versions to upgrade to 10.

              I believe it should work.

Select File | Import Records | File...

Select the file where the table is stored.

Specify "new table" as the target table.

              Import the records.

You should get both the data and the field definitions with the limits I've mentioned earlier stored in a new table in your current file.

              Does this work for you?

                Yes, that worked, thank you!

I believe my problem, I was exporting the data and then importing.  My lesson learned, don't export to FMP if you don't intend to make any changes to the table or any data, just do a direct import...

Thank you for your time and response.

                Appreciatively,
