I am using Filemaker Pro 10 and am on Windows 7.
Set Field [ Field2; Field2 & Field1 ] ??
I dont know what you want.
Would that not create a third field? In a database that is already being used, I want to take data from field one and place it in field two while keeping the data that is already in field 2. Is this possible?
Would that not create a third field?
Let's say field 1 = "Apple" and Field 2 = "Carrot"
Set Field [ Field 2; Field 2 & Field 1]
leaves Field 2 with "CarrotApple"
Yes that is exactly what I want to do. Now what are the exact steps I take to do this?
I should also say, I just want to do this once. And then I want the fields to go back to normal. The data dumped that occur did not do exactly what I wanted it to do and so now I am trying to rectify that.
If you want to do this once, then find the records that you want to change this for first. Then click into Field2.
Go under the Records menu and then choose Replace Field Contents.
Replace by calculated result. Choose Field 1 followed by the & and then Choose Field2.
Hit okay and then Replace.
Keep in mind that you can not undo the changes so you may want to make a backup copy first and also the Replace Field Contents will only replace your found set.
