    Multi Field Portal Filtering

      Multi Field Portal Filtering

      Post

I have hypothetical Table1::Order and Table2::Items, and there are 5 fields in each table that I need to filter and show matching records in a portal. The portal filter need to match any combination of the 5 fields which has data entered and show only those records. If field1 has data and field2-field5 are empty then only match field1, but if field1 and field3 have data and the others are empty match only field1 and field3.

Is the easiest way to write the calculation that takes all possibilities(15) into account and filters based on that? I was hoping that I might be missing some cool slick voodoo that might work.

I think that you are looking at an expression that uses all those possibilities with a lot of parenthesis and OR operators.

You might get some reduction in complexity by using a case function.

And this portal filter could result in a layout that is very slow to update if you have a lot of related portal records to filter.
