Need date stamped sequential entries in a text field

Need date stamped sequential entries in a text field

      Post

I need assistance with creating a text field in a record where I can place entries from time to time and have them date stamped and chronological with most recent at the top. For example:

02/25/09 - Research FileMaker text field issue

01/05/09 - Loaded old version of FileMaker on computer

11/13/08 - Bought turkey for Thanksgiving

Upon entering the record, I would like to click on a button that would place the cursor at the top of the text field and time stamp it ready for my text entry.

Could something like this be easily developed in earlier versions (version 4) FileMaker?

      Thank you.

Not sure what script steps you have in available in 4...

But I'd make a button and assign it a script with STUFF like this:

          Set Field [ YourDB::YourNOTESfield; "¶•" & GetAsText(Get(CurrentDate)) & "•" & GetAsText(Get(CurrentTime)) & "• "]

            Hi mprusse

there is a way to solve your problem IF ( I do not remember ) in 4 there are these script steps:

            Insert calculated result[ ]
            AND
            Perform Find/Replace [ ]

            If yes, do so:

            1) create a global text field ( name it "return" ) and type in a return.
            2) create a script like this:

            Insert calculated result [ Select, "notes" , "DateToText ( Status ( CuttentDate ) ) & " " TimeToText ( Status ( CurrentTime ) ) & " " & If ( not IsEmpty ( notes ) , "§" & notes , "" ) " ]
            Perform Find/Replace [ No Window , text = "§" , Field Value = "return" , "Substitute all" , direction = back , Current Record , Current Field ]

where "notes" is the name of your field.

              I forgot a '&':

              Insert calculated result [ Select, "notes" , "DateToText ( Status ( CuttentDate ) ) & " " & TimeToText ( Status ( CurrentTime ) ) & " " & If ( not IsEmpty ( notes ) , "§" & notes , "" ) " ]

@ TSGal : when I try to modify a message that I have just modified, it give me the first text, NOT the last modified... Why ?
