Need help importing pictures to FileMakerPro 11

      Post

We use the FileMaker Pro11 to create inventory records and catalogs for the products we sell. So far we have successfully been able to create the catalogs and inventory, but what is missing are the pictures.

The only option we were able to do is copy/paste each single photo on the form page, but this is not practical since we have hundreds of products and product images in total.

Is there a way to import a folder of images and have it automatically match each picture with the appropriate item number? ie.  name a picture 294 to match item number 294 and match them

Your help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

If the filenames of your pictures uniquely identify each, then you can use Import Records with the folder option to load a table with all your pictures. This process also allows you to import the filename into a text field, so you can use the contents of this field to match it to the correct record in your other tables.

            yes!

first, make sure your images are named correctly and all in the same format: jpeg, gif, etc.

create a calcuation field for the image name:  "ItemNumber" & ".jpg"

            which will give you "294.jpg"

Also, if you haven't done so already, create a container field for the pictures to be stored in.

go to File --->  Import Records ----> Folder ----> Pictures and Specify the folder location

Point the Image to your Picture Container with the "---->" symbol and set the "File Name" to "=" the calculated Image Name field described above.

Set your import to Update Matching Records.

(if you are storing hundreds of pictures and /or larger images, you definitely want into SuperContainer)

Thank you, great help , everything went well except for when I try to change the "-->" sign to this "=" it doesn't work for images, but it works for everything else. What could be blocking it ?

I was confused by your last post.  You need to set the Image to insert to your picture container field with the File Path equalling your calculated image name.
