Title

new to filemaker, old to sql databases - many to one relationships via odbc

Post

hi - i've downloaded a trial of filemaker and am trying to use it to make a quick app to talk to one of my larger databases which is housed on a sql serve.

I have managed to pull my tables across over odbc and i can read and edit them fine one by one.

what i need to be able to do however is create a layout whereby i can see a many to one relationship between my tables.

let's pretend it's for people and appointments.

i would like to be able to show a form with the name of the person and a list of their appointments.

in sql i would do:

select p.name,  a.appointment_name, a.time

from person p

left join appointment a on p.person_id=a.person_id

i can establish the relationship in the relationship graph, but it will only seem to show me one to one relationships - ie only one appointment per person.

can anyone guide me on how to achieve this (seemingly simple) thing in filemaker?

many thanks for any and all help in advance

robbie
