Some users have all of the database files in one folder, and all of the corresponding container files (as references) in another folder. This would make things easier, but user tend to have files in different locations. You can use a calculation field to obtain the container field references, put that into a list and export it to a text file for your backup program to read, but then you would also need a way for the operating system to locate all the FileMaker files to be archived.
Anyone else out there with some ideas? Shell scripts?
There are utilties that do this. Some free, some not.
Some allow export of the resulting file to other formats.
For mac Disk Library is often recommended.
You can try with the Folder of Files Import Options in the File; Import Records; Folder option in FileMaker 6. It allows you to select a folder (In this case the optical disk) with the include all enclosed folders and the import only a reference to each picture file. I think you will have to play with the structure of the file and the way the scripts works but it's a beginning.
