Title
One drop down leads to specifics in the next drop down...how to?
Post
Sorry for the idiot question as I'm new to filemaker. I'm creating a coffee database for green coffee. I have a couple of drop downs and I'd like for one of them, the country to then have the next drop down reveal drop down entries specific to that country...does that make sense?
So if I select Ethiopia in the country, the variety dropdown will then only show varieties specific to Ethiopia. If I select Brazil, it will only show varieties specific to Brazil.
How would I do this? Is it a relationship thing? Portal?
This is called a conditional value list. Here's a link to a free exploration file that illustrates 8 different ways to set up a conditional value list. What you describe is simply the basic conditional value list:

There's also a link at the end of this file to the second issue which explores the concept of what to do when a simple value list, conditional or otherwise, isn't sufficient.
