What do you mean by:
to populate the Network File Path and to Commit?
Your script would be using Open File to open the file and when setting up the script step you can use the Remote option to find and open the file. Such references to another FileMaker file and managed in Managed | External Data sources and you can edit the external file references used by Open File there.
What do I mean?
I want to automate the Open Remote function so you just click on the button and it automatically goes to the server and the module and skips the manual steps you would perform if you put your Mouse on
then select the server and the module
At the bottom of the window, you see the Network File Path box.
Your suggestion above successfully provided me with the answer. I have done this before but for some reason, went Brain-Dead on this one.
Thanks, I have it resolved. Greatly appreciate the help.
Thanks for the link, S C!
This one bugged me.... so I went back to some notes I made on a previous project....
This is the example solution I was looking for:
Open URL[NoDialog; "fmp://188.8.131.526/RemoteFile"]
Works like charm. Again, thanks.
Open File can also be used in a script to do the same thing.
You are 100% correct, it is another way to do it.
Edit Date Source:
File Path List
Functions exactly the same way....
With one key difference:
Open URL can reference the text in a field so you can update text in fields to redirect to different locations for the file to be opened simply by editing data in a field.
Open File is "hard wired" to a specific file at a specific file. To specify a different remote location for a hosted file requires editing an external data source reference in Manage | External Data Sources.
