Interactive content and other enhancements for container fields

Thank you David for your reply. I have looked at both these links before but they did not help. Firstly, the info about working with interactive containers makes sense but it does not tell me how to make the container interactive.
The first link you posted is only relevant for filemaker 12.x and 13.x, not 11.x.
FileMaker 11 does not support interactive container fields. That was new feature of later versions.
What you can do is:
Use Insert File to insert the file into the container field. In the dialog that pops up for selecting and inserting the file, select "store a reference' by clicking the check box for this option.
You should now be able to open the PDF in the default application specified for your computer by double clicking the container field.
Note: in FileMaker 11, Windows, you can also do a "drag and drop" or Insert Object to get a container field that you can double click to open the file, but I strongly recommend against using that option. It used OLE technology that is not supported in later versions and results in files that cannot be exported from FileMaker 11 format files--which can make them hard to work with even in FileMaker 11.
Thanks so much Phil. That works perfectly.
