Double-click the icon of the .fp7 file
I want to open the file in Filemaker Server
Create a small filemaker file on your client computer.
No tables needed, no layouts either.
Write a one line script:
Open File [//specify the file you want to open]
When selecting the file you want this script to open, use open remote to select the file you want just like you would when using open remote.. from filemaker's file menu.
In file options for this file, specify this simple script to run when the file opens.
Now, when you double click this file or a shortcut to it, it will automatically launch filemaker and connect to the hosted database file.
On Windows computers, I make shortcuts that point directly at the remote file - much smaller and I think faster.
line such as this
That shortcut appears to be a path directly to a file on a shared directory.
I have two problems with that:
This directory should never be a shared directory. It exposes your file to possible sabotage by a user.
Filemaker Shared Files should never be opened by clicking the file directly--you should first launch filemaker and use open remote to access the file.
If you have OCD and don't like having multiple files open at the same time, add this line to the script in the 'dummy file'
Close File [Current File]
Once the dummy file has run the script to open the file you tell it to, I see no reason for it to remain open.
