Can you paste the text here so that we can see what is pasted?
Sure. Thanks. Here is a link to the page that has the track listing formatted in a way that I would like it to appear in my Filemaker Pro field for this album (and any other album):
Hers is the track listing, copied from the web page and pasted directly here:
You're Gonna Miss Me 2:24 Roller Coaster 5:00 Splash 1 (Now I'm Home) 3:50 Reverberation 2:46 Don't Fall Down 3:00 Fire Engine 3:22 Thru The Rhythm 3:05 You Don't Know 2:38 Kingdom Of Heaven 3:05 Monkey Island 2:38 Tried To Hide 2:43
As you can see, it just appears as a line with no "block" formatting. I really do not want to have to format every track listing entry in every record in the database if possible. Does it have to be pasted as a text file? It would be nice to just paste it as an HTML table directly into the field in the record., If that could be done, that would be great, but I have not been able to figure out how to do that.
What I'm thinking is to set up an method that adds the format you want either by clicking a button or via a script trigger. It looks like you either need to insert a tab character before each run time figure and a return after each or the data could be parsed into a pair of fields (title, duration) in a set of related records. Both look quite possible to do here.
As an experiment, I copied the text from the web site and pasted it into a text field. If I went into layout mode and used the inspector's appearance tab to set a pair of tab stops, the first a left justified tab stop at 0 pixels and the second one justified on the : character at 300 pixels, I got a result in the text field that looked very similar to the formatting on the web page.
I did as you advised in your last paragraph setting the tab stops in the field. It works like a charm. Now when I paste the text in it is formatted nicely. Thank you so much.
