pc replaced by mac
if you use fm on a pc and decide to buy a mac when replacing pc, will fm still work on mac?
Filemaker has two different installs. Both Windows / Mac is on the cd. You may have to contact filemaker for the mac download if you purchased the electronic download format. The databases run on both platforms. You may have to do some layout adjustments, because of fonts and spacing.
Once you have installed the FileMaker Application on your mac, you can copy over the Database file or files to your Mac and the Mac version of the application will be able to open them. You'll then want to test your file, layouts, scripts for issues, but you aren't likely to find many issues, if any that need adjustment. (There are more issues going from mac to pc than from pc to mac.)
bought fm12 advanced upgrade and mac - haveing problems installing fm6 - any suggestions
You may not be able to install a version that old on the latest version Mac OS. It simply may not be possible to do so.
for others like me - have fm 6, 8,10,12 - thought you had to install all versions - was told by FM to install 12 and when it says cant find authorized version insert FM10 code
If you have FMP 6 files, you'll need to use FMP 10 to convert them to FP7 format, then you can open them via 12 to convert to Fmp 12 format.
I also recommend that you read these two Knowledge Base articles on converting your files:
Converting to .fp7 format: http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/750/kw/converting
Converting to .fmp12 format: http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/10571/kw/converting
Be prepared to invest some time into testing and updating the converted files as there is a good chance that your converted files may not function perfectly. The KB articles cover many, but not all of the possible issues. Feel free to post back here with any issues you encounter that don't seem to have been covered by the KB articles.
