pdf Container record cannot show up in Windows while it works in Mac

I insert a pdf file by "insert picture" to a container.  The container field will show the pdf contents.  It works perfectly in Mac.  But, in Windows XP, error message is "This file type could not be displayed as a picture. It will be inserted and displayed as a file."  It will show a pdf icon on the container field only.  How can I have a pdf preview on the container field in Windows environment?

This is a known difference between the two platforms. WIndows based systems cannot display PDF's as though they are a picture.

If the PDF was inserted with the Store a reference option, you can use a web viewer with a calculation that extracts the needed file path from the container field in order to open and display the file in the web viewer. This can work with both platforms and enables you to view multiple pages of your PDF.

If the PDF was not inserted as a reference, you'll need to export and open the file to display it on windows. Export Field Contents can export the file to the temporary items folder (so you don't clutter your system up with extra copies of your PDFs) and open it. You can set this up with a script and set the container field up as a button so that clicking the container field opens the PDF for viewing.
